How To Have A Tail–wagging National Puppy Day
March 23rd is National Puppy Day, celebrating the unconditional love and affection that puppies and dogs bring to our lives. The day is also designated to bring awareness of the care and homes that are needed for pups in shelters. So, I’m here to share ALL THINGS ‘DOG’ with you!
If you are looking to add to your ‘furry family’, be sure to consider adopting from a shelter.
Other ways to celebrate the day with your pup include:
- Taking a hike together in a park or natural area. Here are some suggestions for the area’s best places to walk.
- Going to a dog park so you both can make new friends! I suggest Bea Arthur and Ghent dog parks in Norfolk, Fido Field in Newport News, and Chesapeake City Park that now includes two dog parks.
- Making an appointment for your friend at doggie day care where they can run and play with other ‘furrends’, get groomed and pampered, and pick-up a treat! Some local favorites are Great Neck Doggie Daycare in Virginia Beach, DogTown in Norfolk, and Pet Lodge at Yorktown on the Peninsula.
- Picking up a tasty treat while supporting locally-owned pet businesses at Muddy Paws in Norfolk, Nautical Dog in Williamsburg, and Salty Paws, Virginia’s first doggie ice cream bar!
Another way to mark the occasion is to ‘wear’ your love of dogs – perhaps with some cute dog-themed socks, or a fun t-shirt. You can always get matching shirts with your dog… lol. Any way you choose to celebrate, dogs can bring such joy and happiness to our lives, and remind us to live in the moment. Enjoy!
