As we celebrate the birth of our nation, our community is lighting up with festive celebrations! I have listed family-friendly events happening in Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina. Here are some great ways to celebrate freedom, community, and summertime fun!
Virginia Beach
Date: July 4, 2024 – 7PM to 11PM | Fireworks Start at 9:30PM
Location: 17th, 24th, and 31st Street Parks
Virginia Beach’s ‘star-spangled’ salute will feature live music and events that culminate in a fireworks show. All performances are free and everyone is welcome! Shows will be featured at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and Neptune’s Park on 31st Street..
Date: July 4, 2024 – 8PM to 9:30PM | Fireworks start at 9:30PM
Location: 310 Edwin Drive
“July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore”
Independence Day celebration complete with food trucks, live music, and a beautiful fireworks display. The event begins at 8 pm with free admission and parking will be $20. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 pm. Note: Lots will be monitored by parking attendants and will close when full – Edwin Drive will be closed once parking lots are full.
Chesapeake
Date: Thursday, July 3, 2025– 4PM to 9:30PM | Fireworks start at 9:30PM
Location: 900 City Park Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320
Enjoy music, activities, and giveaways while they last! A variety of food trucks will be available. The event is free to the public. $10 on-site Parking Fee. Bring your own chairs or blanket. (Tents, feather flags, and oversized umbrellas are not permitted!).
Norfolk
Date: July 4, 2024 – 5PM to 10PM | Fireworks start at 9:30PM
Location: Town Point Park
“4th of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks”
Relax on the lawn and enjoy an evening of All-American fare, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, cotton candy, and much more, along with live musical entertainment from military brass bands! The night is capped off by the sensational fireworks show high above the Elizabeth River, beginning at 9:30pm.
Yorktown
Date: July 4, 2024 – 9AM to 9:30PM | Fireworks start at 9:15PM
Location: Historic Main Street
“Independence Day Celebration”
Bring your flags and flip flops because the fun begins with a festive parade down historic Main Street! From there, you can lounge on the beach, enjoy live music, visit our local shops and museums, or take part in one of the many fun activities occurring throughout the town. Evening activities include a bell-ringing ceremony, patriotic concert, and a spectacular fireworks display over the York River. Grab your patriotic gear and come celebrate where America won her independence! Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.
Williamsburg
Date: July 4, 2024 – 9AM to 9:30PM | Fireworks start at 9:15PM
Location: Duke of Gloucester Street
There’s no better place to celebrate our nation’s birth than on historic Duke of Gloucester Street. Enjoy patriotic festivities, including public readings of the Declaration of Independence, musical performances, and a dazzling fireworks display to cap the evening.
Outer Banks
Date: July 4, 2024 – | Fireworks start at 9:15PM
“Outer Banks 4th of July”
The Outer Banks is hosting multiple festivals and fireworks shows to celebrate the 4th of July. These include: apple pie contests, live music, water sports, fireworks and much more!
